While restoring this beautiful humidor, we discovered that the patent date in the metal lining dated the humidor to December 11, 1883. Although the humidor is well over 100 years old, it is still in excellent condition. The ornate corner adornments and lid cartouche are in striking contrast to the beautiful patina of the cherry finish. A very rare and distinctive humidor in pristine condition.

World War I Vintage Oak Humidor, circa 1918
This magnificent humidor is extremely rare and the only example of this style that we have ever acquired. When the drawer is pulled open the lid automatically slides back revealing the top compartment. The humidor is operated by a very simply but ingenious sliding mechanism that we have restored to its original working condition. Both the drawer and upper compartment will hold cigars.

The humidor was presented to William James upon his return from World War One, and the shield on the lid is etched with his initials. The humidor was a Christmas present from his family and the shield on the front is etched XMAS 1918. Constructed of oak and adorned with exceptional hardware, this is not only a beautiful and unique humidor, but also a rare piece of history. The original key is also included.

A beautiful humidor that is truly an exceptional find! This is a very rare and unique design that we have never seen before. Brass corners, lid accents, and nameplate add to the beauty of this fine humidor. The hinges and lock are in excellent condition, and this humidor also has the key. We were able to preserve the beautiful patina of this fine humidor to its original, immaculate condition.

While restoring this humidor a headline page from an 1892 newspaper was found under the tin in the lid. It is common to find a heavy paper lining in vintage humidors, but this is the first time that we have found a newspaper lining. The newspaper was neatly folded and in excellent condition. When opened fully the paper is one double page, front and back.

The newspaper is The Union Times, Vol. II No.4, New York, Saturday September 24, 1892. These photographs are samples of both sides of the paper showing articles and ads during this era. We have cleaned and preserved the paper and placed it in a matching oak frame as the perfect accompaniment to this vintage humidor.

This magnificent humidor and framed paper are perfect for the cigar aficionado and history buff. Act now to own this unique piece of history that will never be duplicated.
